The Value of God's Word

An Introduction to Psalm 119

The value of the Word of God in our lives is hard to put into writing. It is life-giving and can heal, restore, and change any circumstance. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and describes the value of the Word of God in detail. It expresses the value of knowing God’s directions and instructions.

In Psalm 119, nine different Hebrew words are used for His directions and instructions. They are:

  1. ways (H1870)

  2. laws (H8451)

  3. testimonies (H5713)

  4. precepts (H6490)

  5. statutes (H2706)

  6. commandments (H4687)

  7. judgements (H4951)

  8. word (H1697)

  9. word (H565)

Psalm 119 also reveals what God’s Word will do for us. It will:

  1. Lead to blessing (1-2).

  2. Establish our ways (5-6).

  3. Keep us from sin (11).

  4. Give us strength (28).

  5. Give us hope (49).

  6. Comfort us in affliction (50).

  7. Make us wise (98, 130)

  8. Give us direction (105, 130).

Over the next two weeks, we will dissect some verses from Psalm 119 to understand the importance of God’s instructions and how they benefit our lives!

Blessings,

Brandee
