Everything is about Jesus. Everything points to Him. From Genesis to Revelation, Jesus is revealed. The more I study and the deeper I go into the hidden mysteries of the Bible, the more I see this truth. Today, I want to share one of the amazing secret mysteries found in a familiar Bible story that points to the Messiah.
In Hebrew, there are four levels of Bible study. Each level takes you deeper and deeper into the Scriptures and the hidden secrets of God. At the foundation is the literal interpretation of Scripture. Then, you have three levels that increasingly go deeper into God's hidden mysteries. In Jeremiah 6:16, God says, Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls. In Hebrew, the word ancient means "what is concealed and what is veiled from sight." It is a hidden meaning that takes some digging to discover.
One of the most popular Bible stories, even to those who do not know much about the Bible, is the story of Noah's Ark. At the surface level, We learn in Genesis about Noah, who God told to build a big boat. God instructed Noah to make this boat for a flood that would come upon the earth. Noah built the ark for himself, his family, and a selection of animal animals. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. After the flood, God saved Noah, his family, and the animals. The waters receded, and God sent a rainbow as a sign to never flood the earth again. That is the literal interpretation, but a picture of Jesus, redemption, and covenant is hidden in this well-known story.
When God first created man, He established a covenant (Genesis 2:7). God breathed His very breath and life into man to establish the covenant relationship. He made Adam in perfection and righteousness, but that perfection was broken when Adam and Eve sinned (Genesis 3). God does not break covenant, so He had to have a plan to keep the covenant relationship He established. That plan came through Jesus the Messiah.
In Noah's day, the earth became corrupt and violent (Genesis 6:11-12). The Bible says:
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. So the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. Then the Lord said, "I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them."
Genesis 6:5-7, NASB
But there was a man named Noah who found favor in God's sight and was known as a righteous, blameless man, and one who walked with God (Genesis 6:8-9). God told Noah to build an ark because He was going to flood the earth and destroy everything. This ark was the continuation of the covenant God made when He breathed His breath into the life of Adam. It was a picture of Jesus, who would one day come and bring salvation to all mankind.
Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the top; and put the door of the ark on the side; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.
Genesis 6:14-16, NASB
Every detail of the ark was by design. It was made of gopher wood and covered with pitch inside and outside. Its length was 300 cubits, width (breath) was 50 cubits, and height 30 cubits.
If you break these details down, you see Jesus! In the Hebrew:
Cover (H3722) means to pardon, forgive, and reconcile.
Pitch (H3724) means to cover, a redemption price, what is demanded in order to redeem or rescue a person.
Inside (H1004) in the roots means to repair.
Outside (H2351) means to separate by a wall.
300 corresponds to the Hebrew letter shin, which means to consume and destroy.
50 corresponds to the Hebrew letter nun, which means Son, life, and restoration.
30 corresponds to the Hebrew letter lamed, which is a picture of a Shepard's staff and authority.
EVERY detail points to Jesus!
The ark represents the Son, who has agreed to pay the redemption price for God's sons and daughters so that they can be forgiven and reconciled with the Father. He has the authority to consume all that has destroyed us and separated us from God so that we can be repaired.
If you look at the actual word for ark in Hebrew, it is the word tebah (H8392). This word is comprised of the Hebrew letters tav (300), bet (2), and hey (5). Tav means "covenant." Bet means "family, house." Hey means "revelation, breath."
The ark itself is a picture of Genesis 2:7, where God bent down to earth, breathed into man to make a covenant, and formed a family!
Spending time in the Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal these hidden mysteries is mind-blowing! Once you begin to dig and search and God reveals these hidden mysteries, your relationship with Him goes to another level. Deeper trust and intimacy develop, and an awe of His genius is beyond human comprehension.
Learning to dig out these mysteries takes time, practice, and some specific resources. If you want more information on the class that teaches you how to do this, you can find out more at Restoring Our Foundations. I am opening up my schedule to teach classes beginning the week of April 21st on Thursdays through Sundays.
