Learning a new language is never easy, and this can be especially true with Hebrew. Hebrew is not only a phonic language but also pictographic. Each letter has a numerical value, meanings, and a picture associated with it. Encoded in the Bible are hidden mysteries God is just waiting to reveal to us as we understand His language.

To help you understand the Hebrew alphabet and how it can enrich your study of Scripture, I am launching a new series here on Substack. It is a series of Bible studies that will teach you about each of the Hebrew letters. As you walk through each study, you will understand the meanings behind the letters, so when you encounter them, you will have a deeper revelation of what God is saying with each word and passage.

Today’s study begins with the letter aleph, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. What does aleph mean? What are keywords that begin with aleph? What was the function of oxen, and why is their role in ancient Hebrew society important to understand? Why is fatherhood foundational to society, and why has it come under attack? These questions and more will be answered in this study on the aleph!
